Uhl Update

Jack climbed his first tree last weekend. It is a small pomegranate tree in our backyard, and he was pretty proud of himself. He said, "it was the biggest tree in the whole world." I feel like this makes him more of a little boy and less of a baby.



Charlotte spends most of her time crawling around the house or standing. She loves to pull up on the tables or anything else. She is just as active as Jack was at her age. I thought I was going to get a quiet, calm girl! I love her and she makes us all laugh.


Charlotte smiles all the time and is a very happy baby, unless she can't get what she wants. She has seven teeth, and can say "da da, ssss, ttttt, and ba ba."

Welcome to Monsoon Season

We generally like the Arizona summer monsoons and the craziness they bring: torrential rains, lots of thunder and lightning. Nice change of pace from the hot and sunny. Thursday night's storm hit a little too close to home - literally. This is a picture of the house one street over from us...struck by lightning. The car exploded, the house windows were blown out and it caught the side of the house on fire. Bad camera phone picture here, but notice the top of the house is charred, and you can see the sky through the side of the house in the bedroom where the room was destroyed.

We hope no one was hurt; I would probably be pretty traumatized if that happened to our place. Our neighborhood is tract homes so we have a few friends with this model of house and the room top left is a secondary bedroom that all our friends use for their kids. Scary.

Jack's First Lecture

We have been going to the library a lot this summer to get out of the house and stay cool. They have a fun toddler time twice a week with stories, songs, and dancing. Jack and Charlotte love it. This afternoon we went to a special presentation for kids, it was supposed to be a Flamenco dancing lesson. When we got there we realized they had changed it to a lecture on reduce, reuse, and recycle. The woman gave a power point presentation about landfills to the group of little kids, and then handed out reusable grocery bags for everyone to use instead of paper or plastic. I guess we are getting desperate for fun things to do inside this summer! When we got home, I asked Jack what the teacher had said during the lecture. He responded, "wowowowowwwooooow."
