Great Grammy Visits!

We had an amazing visit with my Grammy last week! She flew out to AZ with her friend, Patty, to visit us and to see her great-grandchildren. If anyone thinks they have a cool Grandmother, mine is probably cooler. How many 86-year-olds fly across the country, go on a pink jeep tour, visit the Grand Canyon, and ride in a hot air balloon? She's one of a kind!

Hats

It's sad when you are only six weeks old and your brand new hat that your Grandma's coworker knitted especially for you is already too small. I guess that's part of being a Uhl. What do you think, can I use this as a wig? I think it looks like a nice head of hair, which I badly need anyway.

I think I'll start my own Awkward Family Photos blog. We have enough to fill an entire book. Here are two from last weekend:

The Cardinals

Today was The Cardinals' last soccer game. The whole family came out to see the game and cheer for Jack, and afterward the team celebrated at Peter Piper Pizza. It was an exciting season.

Mustache Man

This month Rich has decided to grow a mustache. He's participating in "Movember" to raise awareness for cancers that affect men. His company is matching all donations. In order to raise awareness of prostate cancer, Rich has committed to growing a mustache for 30 days. I think I'll track his progress here on this blog...why not!? Here he is on day 7.

He says he needs me to be supportive and to say positive things about his new appearance. I'm trying to be an encouraging wife, and I honestly do think he looks handsome. Looking forward to the next few weeks!

Tinkerbell and Iron Man had a fun time trick-or-treating with their dad. Tinkerbell's favorite candy was M&M's and Iron Man liked Pixy Stix. Mom and Lucas stayed home to hand out candy.

Jack and Charlotte both love their new brother so much. Here's a picture of Charlotte trying to play with him. Too bad he slept right through it!

Nintendo 2010

There was lots of excitement today in the Uhl house when a FedEx package arrived from Virginia. Grammy sent Suzanne's old Nintendo to Arizona! Luckily we still had our old TV in the garage, so after plugging everything in, the kids got right to work playing Mario and Duck Hunt.

Big Girl Bed!

We took the front off of Charlotte's crib this past weekend and she has done amazingly well. I'm not saying one way of doing things is better than another, but this just demonstrates how different Charlotte's personality is from Jack's. When we moved Jack into a toddler bed, he took the opportunity to get out of bed on his own and come and "visit" us about 20 times in the evenings before he fell asleep, and then several times during the night. Although I love spending time with my precious son, I got very tired of waking up many, many times at night just to walk him back to bed. Not to mention Charlotte was a nursing infant at the time (who got up at least three times per night to eat). This only recently ended, and he is 4.5 years old.

Charlotte, on the other hand, hasn't even noticed that she's IN a toddler bed that she COULD get out of! She has never, not even one time, tried to get out of the bed! Every morning when she wakes up, she calls my name and I come in and get her out of bed! Amazing! I was so nervous about transitioning her into a bed after the crazy time we had with Jack. This has gone better than I could have ever imagined! One day as I was putting her to bed, she said "Mommy, I want to get out." And I replied, "not until morning." Her response: "ok."

Easter

Easter Sunday was a beautiful, sunny day here in Arizona. We woke up early and did an egg hunt and Easter baskets here at our house before church.

The kids had fun playing with their toys and were allowed to eat the ears off of their chocolate bunnies. Then we all got dressed for church and headed out the door.

By the way, here's a picture of my new super-short hair cut, I'm ready for summer now!

After church, we went to Chief and Grandma's house for Easter lunch and another egg hunt. It was a lovely visit with the Uhls and the kids enjoy spending time with their grandparents so much.

Most of all, we are so thankful for the gift that Jesus gave us when he died for our sins and rose again. He sacrificed his life to save ours. He is RISEN!

It is finally warming up around here and we've been spending a lot of time outside in the back yard and at the park. Jack and Charlotte got out their swimsuits from last season and we plugged in the sprinkler...

The flowers are blooming and Rich planted a bunch of new trees and bushes in our yard, including lemon and lime trees, and this purple lantana plant which Charlotte loves...

Jack is busy at preschool and at home, here he is with his homemade drum set complete with "cymbals"...

We made brownies together last night. Both kids love to cook and take turns adding ingredients and stirring...

Charlotte continues to make us laugh at how fancy and girly she is...here she is ready to go to the park...

February

February flew by, and I was so busy having fun that I forgot to blog! We celebrated Rich's birthday on Feb 13th with doughnuts in the morning, cupcakes made by Jack, kite flying, and then Cartwrights dinner in the evening...very fun.

The next day, my parents, sister and her husband, and two nephews arrived from Virginia. The week was filled with visits to the park, the Children's Museum, a stadium tour (for the guys) and taking care of lots of babies. I only got a few photos of the visit...which means I was having too much fun to remember my camera.
